TOPIC: THE GLORY OF THE NEW COVENANT
TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 3:7-18
KEY VERSE:
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit – 2 Corinthians 3:18.
God promised the new covenant in Jeremiah 33:31-34, in which the law will be written on men’s hearts. The glory of the new covenant was so superior that the glory of the old faded into insignificance by comparison. The old covenant has its glory i.e. the law was great because it drew our attention to Christ. However, God’s plan in the new covenant to give us life through His Spirit dwelling in our hearts is a greater glory. In the new covenant, the law and the promise are fulfilled through Christ; His death as a sacrifice and His resurrection (Romans 4:25) so that by faith in Christ we can be justified and made right with God.
During Moses’ encounter in the old covenant, the glory which reflected on his face began to fade as soon as he left God’s presence. The veil prevented them from understanding Moses’ covenant as temporary and not permanent.
Whenever a person trusts the Lord, and accepts Christ as the fulfillment of the law, the Lord completely removes the veil, giving freedom, eternal life, understanding and awareness that we cannot be saved by keeping the law. After conversion, there is a progressive transformation of the Christian character by the Spirit. Becoming like Christ a progressive work. As believers with unveiled minds, we can see the truth about Christ via the scriptures as we study daily until we fully reflect His glory. We are changed into the likeness or image of things that we behold and are focused on. Are your eyes, heart and mind truly focused on Jesus Christ and everything about him?
ACTION:
Do not allow any veil to hinder you from reflecting God’s glory.
PRAYER:
Ask the Lord to remove the veil in men’s hearts that hinders understanding, freedom, and eternal life.
