Most Rev Prof. Miracle Ajah

Principal Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria

Most Rev. Prof. Miracle Ajah (born 21st August 1964) is a distinguished church leader, theologian, and scholar from Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria. He currently serves as the Principal Clerk of the General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), a position he has held since September 2020. A seasoned Minister of Word and Sacrament since 1986, he is also a Professor of Biblical Studies (Old Testament) at the National Open University of Nigeria, Abuja, where he is presently on leave of absence.

Prof. Ajah holds a Ph.D. in Old Testament from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa (2006), an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Texas, USA (2001), a B.A. in Religion from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1995), and a Diploma in Theology from Trinity Union Theological College, Umuahia (1986). He also earned a Proficiency Certificate in Biblical Hebrew Grammar from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2015). Throughout his ministry, Prof. Ajah has served in several parishes and leadership capacities within the PCN, including as Minister-in-Charge in Ikeja, Umuahia, and Uyo; Moderator of Lagos Presbytery; first Moderator of Synod of the West; Clerk of South Central Synod; Rector and Director at Hugh Goldie Lay/Theological Training Institution, Arochukwu; and Moderator of Umuahia Presbytery. His leadership extended beyond the Church as he served as Special Assistant on Inter-Religious Matters to the Abia State Governor (2007–2008) and Vice Chairman of the Abia State Christian Council of Nigeria (2002–2005).

An active ecumenist, Prof. Ajah has coordinated and led numerous national Christian initiatives, including serving as National Coordinator of the Biblical Scholars’ Translation Engagement Programme (BiSTEP), National President of Abia-Ohafia for Christ Association, Trustee Member, Greater Ohafia for Christ Association and Leader of the Ministerial Team of NOUN Christian Fellowship. He has contributed immensely to church growth, planting over a dozen congregations across Nigeria and spearheading the construction of several church buildings and manses. A visionary reformer, he co-founded the Basic Training for Commissioned Lay Preachers (BTCLP) and played a major role in the creation of the Synod of the West in 1996.

Prof. Ajah is widely respected for his commitment to theological education, biblical scholarship,  evangelism, and the holistic development of the Church. He is married and resides in Aba, Abia State, where he continues to provide leadership for the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria and contribute to Christian education and ministry both nationally and internationally.
